To support students who need extra help in literacy, math, science and foundational skills, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is partnering with tutoring companies in the community to provide free tutoring for students.
What You Need to Know
- The WRDSB will cover the cost of tutoring services from the list of companies below, between June 13 and August 31, 2022.
- Students in Grades K-8 are eligible for two 1-hour sessions per week.
- Students in Grades 9-12 are eligible for two 1.5-hour sessions per week.
- Funding for this program is limited and registration will be on a first-come basis.
- Only current WRDSB students are eligible.
- Students must enroll for at least 4 weeks to a maximum of 10 weeks.
- Students must attend twice a week.
- Students who miss more than 20% of tutoring sessions during a month will lose their spot.
- Invoices will be submitted directly to the WRDSB.
- Private tutors are not eligible for reimbursement.
How to Register
- Please contact one of the tutoring companies below to enroll your child. There are both virtual and in-person options available at most locations.
- Each service provider has a limited number of spaces available.
- Should one company be full, parents/caregivers can contact another company.
- To register, you must show the child’s most recent WRDSB report card, and provide the student’s OEN found in the top section of the report card.
About the Ministry of Education’s Learning Recovery Plan
This program is being offered as part of the Ministry of Education’s Learning Recovery Plan, which aims to strengthen learning recovery in language and math for the students of Ontario. Part of that plan is to provide tutoring support to students experiencing struggles in literacy, numeracy or key secondary credits.
