Dear students, parents, and caregivers,
Welcome to the Elementary Remote Learning School (ERL) for the 2022-2023 school year.
As we prepare to start school, we would like to share some key information.
Caregiver Communication
In the ERL, we will use two key spaces to share information with parents and caregivers:
School Website
The Elementary Remote Learning School (ERL) website contains information about:
- Important ERL events
- Preparing for remote learning
- Attendance procedures
- And much more
Parents and caregivers can subscribe to the website by entering their email address at the bottom of the main page to receive email updates.
The ERL Twitter account (@erlwrdsb) provides information about events and activities occurring in the virtual classrooms and hallways of the Elementary Remote Learning School.
The ERL Timetables
Regular School Schedule
- 9:00 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
- Two Nutrition Breaks
- 300 minutes of instruction
Kindergarten
- 180 minutes of synchronous learning (Live, virtual learning with the teacher)
- 120 minutes of asynchronous learning (Independent learning assigned by the teacher to allow for small group instruction)
Grades 1 to 8
- 225 minutes of synchronous learning (Live, virtual learning with the teacher)
- 75 minutes of asynchronous learning (Independent learning assigned by the teacher to allow for small group instruction)

The First Day of Class
The ERL is following a staggered start model to ensure that each student is able to access their virtual learning space.
September 6, 2022: Tech Check
Between 9:00 am to 1:30 pm, students and families will receive a welcome call or email from each of their teachers with instructions about how to access their virtual classroom. Please follow your teachers’ instructions to access the virtual classroom, Brightspace. Teachers will share a schedule for the first day of school.
September 7, 2022
Teachers will be online to welcome students to the program and start building the foundations of the classroom environment. For this day, a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning will happen, teachers will provide through the virtual learning environment a list of asynchronous choice boards.
September 8, 2022
Students are expected to attend according to their regular school schedule.

If your student needs a device, please contact your home school’s office to arrange a pick-up time.
Student Materials
Your home school will contact you when your student’s materials package has arrived and is ready for pick-up by the third week of school.
Tech@Home
WRDSB families and students who require support with technology can refer to the Tech@Home website, which offers information on how to troubleshoot common issues with Chromebooks and iPads. You can quickly access this website using the button found on school websites.
